What I Treat · Hillcrest, San Diego

Classical acupuncture for performance & executive health.

For people functioning at high levels who know something is off, and want to restore the foundational resources that made excellence possible.

You're functioning, but not at your best.

Brain fog slows your thinking. Decision fatigue hits by mid-afternoon. Energy runs on caffeine and willpower. You're productive, but it takes more effort than it used to. Blood work is normal. Your doctor says you're fine.

But you know something is off. The sharpness is gone. Recovery takes longer. You're running on reserves, and those reserves are running low. This is what happens when high performers operate in chronic depletion without addressing the constitutional resources that enable peak function. You can push through for years. But eventually, performance declines, burnout approaches, and the body that carried you through everything starts demanding attention.

What classical medicine sees.

Peak performance comes from having the resources to meet demand without depleting yourself, not from pushing harder. Classical acupuncture identifies three foundational elements that determine sustainable high function:

How I work differently.

  1. Assess constitutional resources directly. Pulse diagnosis evaluates the quality of your Jing, Blood, and Qi, and which has depleted most. This determines whether treatment focuses on Eight Extraordinary Channels, Spleen-Stomach work, or Liver constraint first.
  2. Rebuild, don't override. The goal isn't forcing more performance from depleted resources. It's restoring the resources so performance becomes sustainable again.
  3. Address the Heart-Kidney axis for burnout. Reconnecting Kidney Jing to Heart Shen is the specialized work that shifts burnout from going-through-the-motions back into genuine engagement.
  4. One patient at a time. A private room, my undivided attention, the entire session.
"Before meeting Diego, I felt overwhelmed, disorganized, and forgetful. Since working with him I'm more energized and inspired, procrastinating less, getting back on track at work and building healthier, more productive habits at home." — Erin M.

How is this different from just managing stress?

Stress management addresses external demands and psychological response. Classical acupuncture rebuilds the physical resources (Jing, Blood, Yang) that chronic stress has depleted. Both matter, but you can't think your way out of constitutional depletion.

How long does it take to see results?

Sleep and energy usually lift first, with mental sharpness following. Rebuilding the deep reserves underneath, what classical medicine calls Jing, is gradual by nature and rewards consistency. We don't keep a fixed schedule; each visit we read where your reserves are and build from there.

Can I continue my demanding work schedule?

Yes and no. The goal is optimizing your ability to sustain high performance. That said, if you're burning resources faster than we can rebuild them, we'll have that honest conversation.

Is this preventative or only for people already depleted?

Both. Earlier is easier, but even significant depletion can be restored with time and commitment. High performers who come in preventatively typically maintain peak function longer and avoid the breakdown that forces the issue.
